Dog Training

Our Philosophy: Positive Reinforcement (R+).  Reward the behaviours you desire and ignore the ones you don’t. The undesirable will fade and the reinforced behaviours will continue. It’s a way of living not only a way of training. We strive to help you see your animal as an equal, a family member, not a servant.

What we do: We observe, analyze and use non-damaging science based facts and techniques to manage and train behaviours.

Our promise: We will never use pain, force or fear to train your pets.  Positive reinforcement training is a wonderful non-damaging method to train leaving your dogs personality and character intact. We work with your pets, not against them.

Our techniques:  We won’t set your dog up to fail. Who wants to train and work when they’re always corrected or punished? No one, not even your dog. Our programs are designed to help you and your dog succeed through a series of games, exercise and activities that strengthen your bond and motivate you both to learn. Dogs are willing active participants in their training. We treat animals as the unique individuals they are and offer them choices that empower them. We want to see your pets succeed and do it happily.

Clicker Training: Clicker training is a scientifically proven method for training animals. Studies have shown animals learn 33% faster when clicker trained vs. conventional methods. The clicker is a marker and serves as a great communication tool acting as a bridge from when the desired behaviour is performed to the delivery of the reinforcer (food). It will strengthen your relationship with your dog because it’s a forgiving method of learning, simply put – if your dog doesn’t do the right thing, the consequence is no click and they simply try again.

Training Plans

Our training plans and programs are formulated with each client in mind, their needs, their dog’s needs, lifestyle and goals. While we do have set curriculums to help guide training programs all programs are completely customizable and tailored to suit your individual needs. My plan and hope at the end of our training sessions is to leave knowing each client and their dog live in harmony.  Our programs include learning to read your dog’s body language, understanding what they are trying to communicate to you, how to best fulfill their emotional, physical and mental needs along with training basic behaviours and good manners.

Our philosophy and belief is to help you and your dog succeed, empowering your pets and giving them choice through positive reinforcement and reward based training. We provide all the tools you need to start off right from our training workbooks, session notes, one-on-one support, to our starter kits.

Each client is supported and encouraged to use the knowledge, tools and exercises we practice in their daily life to help build lasting and trusting relationships with their dogs.

Puppies 5+ Months

What you’ll learn:  PRACTICE! This program complements our KinderPuppy program as we advance on the knowledge learnt.  You can expect to gain better understanding of how to manage your dog’s behaviour around distractions, work with distances and build on duration. This program is designed to help encourage and promote continuous training and relationship building as often times once classes are finished, behaviours are not maintained (for both human and dogs!). This program will help to further your human-dog bond with intermediate behaviours being introduced. Examples of what we’ll work on together: loose leash walking with distractions, recall and attention games, how to greet politely, how to manage behaviours when people come over, introduction of behaviour chains, engagement games and trick training.

FAQs

Trizane Dog Services utilizes marker-based positive reinforcements popularly called “clicker training.”  A clicker is a tool used to mark the moment an animal has performed the desired behaviour and is then rewarded for their efforts.

Reanna has completed animal training studies at Dalhousie University and obtained her training certification from Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behaviour a leader in the field of animal training and in the science and application of marker-based positive reinforcement.  She also regularly participates in continuous education.

You do not need to use the clicker forever, only when training and the animal is learning new behaviour.

A clicker is a small device that makes a clicking sound. It’s the tool of choice because of ease of use and distinct sound.

The clicker acts as a bridge during training. The click is used to mark the exact moment the desired behaviour is performed and to let the animal know a reward is coming.  Behaviours that are rewarded will continue and those that are ignored will extinguish and disappear. A history of reinforcement trumps aversive and negative reinforcement and this is what makes those cues reliable.

Of course! In fact clicker training did not begin with dogs, it started with marine mammals to train behaviours and is now being used by trainers in zoos, research facilities, sanctuaries, all sorts of places.

We provide dog training in Peel Region (Brampton and Mississauga) as well as Etobicoke.
